Download YouTube Videos for Offline Viewing
Source-checked About 10 minutes
Answer
Use YouTube's own Download control where YouTube Premium and the video's settings permit it. Downloads remain inside YouTube for offline playback.
Use the supported offline feature
Sign in to YouTube with the account that has YouTube Premium where required. Availability depends on the country, device, video, and rights holder; a missing Download button usually means that item is not eligible.
Open the video while online
Find the video in the YouTube app or supported browser and confirm it plays normally. Avoid third-party converter sites, which can expose account or device data and do not provide YouTube's licensed offline playback.
Choose Download
Select Download below the video or from its menu, then choose an available quality. Higher quality consumes more storage. Keep the app open until the progress indicator shows the download is complete.
Find the offline copy
Open You > Downloads, or Library > Downloads on older layouts. Play the item from that section rather than looking for an MP4 in Photos or File Explorer; YouTube keeps protected downloads inside its service.
Manage quality and storage
Open YouTube Settings > Background & downloads to review download quality, Wi-Fi-only behavior, and storage use. Remove finished videos from Downloads when space is needed instead of clearing unrelated app data.
Reconnect periodically
YouTube requires the device to reconnect periodically so it can confirm that the video remains available. A download may disappear if Premium ends, the rights holder removes the video, or the account is changed.

If it does not work
- If Download is unavailable, verify Premium status, region, device support, and the video's eligibility. If an existing download will not play, reconnect with the same account and let YouTube refresh availability before removing and downloading it again.
