Remove a song from an Instagram post

Source-checked About 5 minutes

Answer

Instagram's current editing help does not provide a music-removal control for a published feed post. Keep a copy of the original photo or video and caption, delete the post, then publish it again without selecting Add music.

Keep the original

Confirm that the original photo or video is saved on the phone, and copy the caption if you want to reuse it.

Delete the published post

Open the post, select the options menu, choose Delete, and confirm.

Create the post again

Start a new feed post with the original media and caption. Do not select Add music before sharing it.

Confirm the replacement post

Open the newly published post and confirm it contains the intended media and caption without the song. The deleted original remains in Recently deleted for 30 days unless you remove it permanently.

Video walkthrough

If it does not work

  • If Instagram does not offer an audio edit for the published post, preserve the original media and caption before deleting anything. The supportable fallback is to remove and repost without the song where appropriate; do not use an unofficial editor or account tool that requests Instagram credentials.
