Post a GIF in an Instagram Comment

Answer

Open the Instagram post, select its comment icon, then select GIF beside the comment box. Search GIPHY, preview the result, and select the GIF to post it. If the GIF button is missing, update Instagram and try another post because comments or GIF replies may not be available on that post or account.

Open the Instagram app

Open the comments

Select the speech-bubble comment icon below the post. Confirm that the post accepts comments.

Select GIF

Look to the right of the Add a comment box and select GIF.

Search GIPHY

Enter a useful search word or browse the displayed GIFs. The results are supplied through GIPHY.

Preview the choice

Watch the animation and check that it fits the conversation. Be careful because selecting a GIF may post it immediately.

Confirm or remove the comment

Check that the GIF appears under the correct post. If you chose the wrong one, open that comment's menu and delete it.

If it does not work

If GIF is missing, update Instagram, close and reopen it, then test a different public post that allows comments.
If the comment box is unavailable, the creator may have disabled or limited comments on that post.
If GIF search does not load, test the internet connection and try again later rather than repeatedly posting alternatives.
