How to Add Friends in Minecraft Bedrock

Source-checked About 5 minutes

Answer

In Minecraft Bedrock, select Play > Friends > Add Friend, enter your friend's exact Xbox gamertag, and select Add Friend. To play together, the host opens a world, opens the pause menu, selects Invite to Game, chooses the friend, and sends the invitation.

Guide steps4 steps
  1. Open the Bedrock Friends tab
  2. Add the exact gamertag
  3. Invite the friend from your world
  4. Verify the friend joins
  5. If it still does not work

Open the Bedrock Friends tab

Sign into the intended Microsoft account, launch Minecraft Bedrock, select Play, and open Friends. Bedrock uses the Xbox gamertag on that Microsoft account.

Add the exact gamertag

Select Add Friend, enter the person's complete Xbox gamertag, and select the matching result. Confirm the spelling before adding the profile.

Invite the friend from your world

Open or create the Bedrock world you want to share. Open the pause menu, select Invite to Game, choose the friend, and select Send invites.

Verify the friend joins

The setup worked when the friend appears in the world. Adding the gamertag only adds the profile; the host must still open a multiplayer world and send an invitation.

If it does not work

  • If the gamertag is not found, ask the person to copy the exact Xbox gamertag shown on their Microsoft profile; another platform's display name will not work.
  • If Add Friend or Invite to Game is unavailable, confirm both players are signed in to Microsoft accounts with online multiplayer permission.
  • This path is for Bedrock Edition. Java Edition uses servers, Realms, or LAN and does not use the same Bedrock Friends screen.
