Fix a Zoom Recording That Is Not Converting

Source-checked About 10 minutes plus conversion time

Answer

Keep the original Zoom recording files unchanged and make sure the computer has free storage. In Zoom Workplace, open Meetings > Recorded, select the meeting, and choose Convert. If it is not listed, open the recording folder and double-click the file named double_click_to_convert_01.zoom. On Windows, choose Zoom's zTscoder.exe if the system asks which app should open the file.

Protect the recording folder

Make a copy of the entire meeting folder before troubleshooting. Do not rename, move individually, or edit the .zoom files inside it.

Check storage and power

Free enough disk space for the converted video, connect a laptop to power, and keep it awake. Zoom error 614 can indicate insufficient disk space.

Try conversion from Zoom

Open Zoom Workplace, select Meetings, then Recorded. Select the affected meeting and choose Convert if it appears.

Try the recording-folder launcher

If the meeting is not listed, open its original folder and double-click double_click_to_convert_01.zoom. Keep the other .zoom files beside it.

Choose Zoom's converter on Windows

If Windows asks for an app, browse to C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\Zoom\bin\zTscoder.exe and use that Zoom program to open the conversion file.

Verify and preserve the result

Let conversion finish without closing the laptop. Play the MP4 and audio from beginning to end before deleting the backup or original .zoom files.

If it does not work

  • If the recording path is invalid or unavailable, restore the complete folder to a local writable location without renaming the files, then try again.
  • If conversion stopped when the laptop closed, reopen Zoom and start Convert again while the computer stays awake.
  • If the original .zoom files are missing or damaged, stop altering the folder and contact Zoom Support with the meeting date, app version, operating system, and exact error.
