Show the FPS Counter in Minecraft Java Edition

Answer
In Minecraft Java Edition, press F3 to open the debug menu. The display includes performance information; press F3 again to hide it. This Java Edition shortcut is not a Bedrock setting.
Confirm the edition
Use this shortcut only in Minecraft Java Edition. Bedrock Edition has different interface and performance controls, so do not expect F3 to provide the same display.
Open a world
Join the Java Edition world where you want to inspect performance. Pause or move to a safe area first if opening the debug view would obstruct play.
Press F3
Press F3 to toggle the Java debug menu. Minecraft Help documents F3 as the default hotkey for the debug menu.
Find the performance information
Read the debug display for the live performance information it provides while the world is running. Use the reading as an observation, not a guarantee that a setting will improve FPS.
Compare the same scene
When checking performance, remain in the same area and use the same graphics settings so the reading is comparable. Changing render distance, resource packs, and location at once makes the result hard to interpret.
Hide the debug menu
Press F3 again to return to the normal game view. Keep the debug menu off while recording or sharing screenshots that could reveal technical or location information you do not want to publish.

If it does not work
- If F3 changes another laptop function, use the keyboard's documented function-key mode or Fn key rather than remapping Minecraft controls at random.
- If the debug menu does not appear, confirm that you launched Java Edition and that the keyboard shortcut reaches the game window instead of an operating-system overlay.
