Open Customize Chrome
Select Customize Chrome or the pencil icon in the lower corner.

Choose the background
Upload a trusted local image or select a Chrome collection and set any refresh option deliberately.

Undo or troubleshoot
Choose Classic Chrome or remove the background; if controls are locked, check the active theme, extension, or organization policy.

Verify the result
Open several new tabs and verify the chosen image, crop, theme contrast, shortcuts, and profile all remain correct after restarting Chrome.
