Fix Minecraft “Failed to Verify Username”

Close Minecraft, sign out of the official Launcher, and sign back into the Microsoft account that owns Java Edition. If every server still fails, check Microsoft/Xbox sign-in services; if only one server fails, report the exact error and time to that server’s owner. Do not disable server account verification as a shortcut.

Close the failed Java session

Exit the server and close Minecraft completely. Keep the exact disconnect text and time so you can distinguish this authentication error from a server whitelist, ban, or version mismatch.

Refresh the official Launcher sign-in

In Minecraft Launcher, open the gamertag menu and select Log out. Select Microsoft Login and sign back into the Microsoft account that owns Java Edition.

Launch Java and retry

Start Java Edition from the official Launcher and reconnect to the same server. Success means the server accepts the refreshed account session without Failed to Verify Username.

Test one other server

If the error returns, try one other known-working Java server. If only the first server fails, send its owner the exact message and time. If every server fails, verify Java ownership and check Xbox sign-in status.

If it does not work

Make sure the Launcher account owns Java Edition; a different Microsoft account can create a valid sign-in but not the expected license session.
When Xbox sign-in services report an incident, wait and retry after recovery instead of reinstalling Minecraft.
Do not ask a server owner to set online-mode=false. That disables identity verification and is not a safe general fix for licensed players.
