First separate a service outage from an account or launcher problem. If Xbox services are available, close Minecraft Launcher, sign in to the Xbox app with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft, then reopen the launcher and select that same account. Do not change DNS or reinstall first.
Note the complete message, the Minecraft edition, the launcher name, and whether the error appears before the main menu or only when joining one server. These details separate authentication from a server-specific connection failure.
2
Check Xbox service status
Open Xbox Status and check the account, profile, and gaming services before changing the PC. If the relevant service reports an incident, wait for the service to recover and retry with the same settings.
Sign in to the Microsoft account you believe owns Minecraft and check its order history for the purchase. Minecraft Help says a common cause is using a different account from the one that purchased the game.
4
Close Minecraft Launcher completely
Exit the game and Minecraft Launcher. Check that the launcher has closed rather than leaving its window or sign-in prompt open, because the next step needs a fresh account session.
5
Sign in to the Xbox app first
Open the Xbox app on Windows and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft. Minecraft Help specifically recommends signing in to the Xbox app first, then relaunching Minecraft with the same account.
Reopen Minecraft Launcher and use its account menu to select or add the exact Microsoft account used in the Xbox app. Remove no accounts until you have confirmed which one owns the game.
Launch the same edition and retry the same server. If the launcher signs in but only one multiplayer server fails, keep the server address and contact that server's administrator instead of repeating account changes.

If it does not work
If Xbox Status reports an incident, local DNS, hosts-file, firewall, or reinstall changes cannot repair the service. Keep the PC unchanged and retry after the incident clears.
If the account that owns Minecraft works in the Xbox app but Minecraft Launcher still rejects it, contact Minecraft Support with the exact message, edition, launcher version, and proof of purchase. Do not post purchase details publicly.
