Create a Discord Welcome Message With Rules and Roles
Source-checked · About 10 minutes
Answer
This tutorial uses Dyno's current Welcome module, not a native Discord welcome-message setting. Add Dyno from its official site, open Dyno Dashboard > your server > Modules > Welcome > Settings, choose Message or Embed, select the welcome channel, write the message, and save it; Dyno needs View Channel, Send Messages, and Embed Links there, and mentioning a role does not assign that role.
1
Add Dyno from its official site
Open Dyno's official invite, sign in to Discord, select the intended server, and review the requested access before Authorize. Use a server you own or manage and do not add Administrator merely to create a welcome message.
2
Open the Welcome module
Go to dyno.gg/account, select the same server, then open Modules and enable Welcome if it is off. Select Settings under Welcome; the page should show message-type, channel, and message controls.
3
Choose where Dyno sends the greeting
Choose Message, Embed, or Embed and Text, then select the public welcome channel; use the DM option only if a private greeting is intentional. In Discord, give Dyno View Channel, Send Messages, and Embed Links in that destination channel.
4
Write rules and role links clearly
Enter a short greeting, the first rule-reading action, and the next channel; Dyno supports variables such as {user}, {#channel}, and {&role}. A role variable only mentions that role, so use a separately documented role-assignment method if members must receive it.
5
Save and inspect the configured result
Use Dyno's Preview when configuring an embed, then select Update or Save at the bottom of the module. Reopen Welcome settings and confirm the chosen channel, message type, and text remain selected.
6
Test with a real non-admin member
Have a privacy-safe test user leave and rejoin, then confirm Dyno posts once in the selected channel and that the rules/channel links are visible to that ordinary member. Do not invite a bot as the test account because Dyno intentionally ignores bots.

If it does not work
If no welcome appears, run ?diagnose welcome and confirm the module is enabled before changing permissions or reinstalling Dyno.
If Dyno reports a permission problem, check only View Channel, Send Messages, and Embed Links in the selected welcome channel before considering broader access.
If the greeting is sent by DM, the joining user's Allow direct messages from server members setting must permit it; move the greeting to a server channel if DM delivery cannot be relied on.
If a variable shows @Unknown-User or digits, open that user's Discord profile to refresh the client cache; Dyno says there is no permanent server-side fix for this display issue.
