Retry once, confirm the plugin and its required app are available to your plan and workspace, then disconnect and reconnect the underlying app. A workspace admin may need to enable the plugin or app; reinstalling the browser cannot override an admin or regional restriction.
Record the plugin name and full message, then retry in a new ChatGPT conversation. Check OpenAI's status page before changing authentication when several plugins fail at the same time.

Open the Plugin Directory
Open ChatGPT's Plugin Directory and select the affected plugin. Confirm that it is available for your plan, workspace role, region, and the ChatGPT surface you are using.
Review which app the plugin requires and whether it shows Connected. In managed workspaces, ask an owner or admin to confirm both plugin installation policy and app role permissions.

Reconnect the app
Disconnect only the affected app from Settings > Apps, then connect it again and complete the provider's OAuth screen. Read the requested permissions and stop if the provider or domain is unfamiliar.

Start a clean conversation
Open a new chat, select the plugin or mention its app, and run a harmless read-only request first. This separates a stale conversation state from a broader connection problem.

Report a reproducible failure
If the same message returns, save the time, plugin, required app, workspace type, browser or desktop version, and request ID when shown. Send that evidence to the workspace admin or OpenAI Support.

A grey Connect button can reflect plan, region, role, or admin restrictions; changing browsers cannot grant that permission.
