Open the official Luma app

Use the official Luma website rather than a copied login page. Sign in with the account whose credits and projects you intend to use.

Start a board

Create a new board or open an existing one for this project. A board is Luma's workspace for keeping your brief, reference files, generated clips, and later changes together.

Write a clear video brief

Tell Luma that you want a video, then describe the subject, what happens, the setting, and the camera view. For example: Create a short video of a paper boat moving across a quiet pond at sunrise, filmed from a low side angle. Plain language is enough; you do not need special prompt commands.

Add a reference image only when useful

Upload an image if the video should begin from a particular character, product, scene, or visual style. Select the file in the board and explain how Luma should use it. Skip this step for a video made only from text, and upload only material you have permission to use.

Check credits and generate the clip

Ask Luma to create the video. Luma can choose a suitable model automatically, or you can choose a video model from the toolbar if you understand the options. Before confirming, read any visible credit estimate and check your balance. Luma offers a way to try the platform, but generations use credits and current allowances can change.

Review the entire result

Play the clip from beginning to end. Check that the requested action happens, the main subject stays recognizable, the frame is suitable for where you will publish it, and there are no unwanted objects, distorted details, or abrupt cuts.

Request one specific change

If the first result is not usable, tell Luma exactly what to change, such as Keep the camera still or Make the movement slower. Changing one main issue at a time makes it easier to compare the new result with the previous clip.

Download the version you checked

Select the final clip and use the available download or export control. Play the saved file once before deleting any earlier version. Keep the board until you have confirmed that the file opens and contains the correct result.

If it does not work

  • If Luma creates an image instead of a video, state Create a video in the next instruction and select a video model or video option in the toolbar before generating again.
  • If Generate is unavailable, check the credit balance and the cost shown for the selected model. Do not assume an older free allowance still applies.
  • If a result fails or remains stuck, keep the board, copy the exact error, try a shorter and more literal brief, and remove any unnecessary reference file before submitting once more.
  • If the subject changes too much, start from a clear reference image and describe the movement and camera separately. Use one subject and one simple action for the next test.
