You no longer need the old AskYourPDF-plugin workflow for ordinary PDF analysis. In a supported ChatGPT plan and surface, attach the PDF directly, wait for upload processing, ask a focused question, request page references, and compare important answers with the original document.
Open ChatGPT and select the account and workspace allowed to receive the document. Use Temporary Chat or the workspace's approved retention controls when appropriate, and never upload confidential, regulated, or copyrighted material without permission.

Attach the PDF directly
Select the attachment or plus button in the composer, choose the PDF from Files, and wait until its filename appears as an attachment. Current ChatGPT file uploads support PDF; an old third-party AskYourPDF plugin is not required for this basic workflow.

Check current file limits
OpenAI documents supported file types, plan availability, file-size and token limits, usage caps, and visual-retrieval differences. Check the live Help Center before splitting or converting a file solely because an older tutorial named a fixed limit.
Name the document and ask for one outcome, such as a section summary, a comparison, definitions, or a list of passages about a topic. State whether you want page numbers, quotations, a table, or uncertainty called out.

Request evidence from the document
Ask ChatGPT to identify the page or section supporting each important claim. For scanned PDFs, verify that text was recognized correctly; image-only pages, charts, and complex layouts may require manual inspection or a plan with visual PDF retrieval.

Verify high-impact answers
Open the cited pages in the original PDF and compare names, numbers, dates, conditions, and exceptions. Treat the response as an aid to reading, not as proof that every table, footnote, signature, or legal clause was interpreted correctly.

Remove or retain the file deliberately
When finished, follow the current account and workspace controls for deleting the chat or managing uploaded files. A document uploaded in Temporary Chat is handled differently from one saved to a normal chat or file library.
