Upload a Video to Google Drive on iPhone

Source-checked About 10 minutes

Answer

In Drive, tap Add > File upload, choose the video and Drive location, then tap Upload. The video uses your storage even in another person's folder.

Guide steps6 steps
  1. Prepare the correct file and account
  2. Choose the destination first
  3. Start the file upload
  4. Keep the transfer active
  5. Verify the uploaded video
  6. Share only with the intended audience
  7. If it still does not work

Prepare the correct file and account

Open Photos and confirm the video plays, then check its approximate size. Open Drive and verify the profile picture belongs to the account that should store the file; uploads consume that account's storage even when placed in someone else's shared folder.

Choose the destination first

Navigate to the intended My Drive or shared folder and confirm you have permission to add files. If the folder contains sensitive material, check its members before uploading; moving the video later does not undo access people already had.

Start the file upload

Tap Add (+) > File upload, choose Photos and Videos or the offered picker, grant selected-photo access if prompted, then select the video. Use Location to confirm the final Drive folder before tapping Upload.

Keep the transfer active

Leave the iPhone on a reliable connection and avoid force-closing Drive while the progress indicator is active. Large videos can take time and may use mobile data depending on iOS and Drive settings.

Verify the uploaded video

Open the destination folder, check the filename and file size, and wait for Drive to finish processing before judging preview quality. Play the beginning and end or download a test copy when integrity is important.

Share only with the intended audience

Use Manage access or Share on the uploaded file, enter specific recipients, and choose Viewer, Commenter, or Editor deliberately. Copy link only after checking whether access is Restricted or available more broadly.

Video walkthrough

If it does not work

  • If the upload stalls, keep the original video in Photos, confirm Drive storage and folder permission, switch to a stable network, reopen Drive, and retry once. If duplicate files appear, compare size and playback before deleting either copy; if the video cannot be selected, review Drive's Photos permission in iPhone Settings.
