Fix Text Messages That Won’t Delete on iPhone
Source-checked About 10 minutes
Answer
Delete the conversation or selected messages, then remove them from Recently Deleted. If deletion does not sync, check Messages in iCloud, storage, and the current iOS update.
Delete the item correctly
In Messages, swipe left on a conversation and tap Delete, or touch and hold a bubble > More, select messages, and tap Delete.

Empty Recently Deleted
In the conversation list, tap Edit or Filters > Show Recently Deleted, select the items, and permanently delete them only if you do not need recovery.
Check iCloud synchronization
If Messages in iCloud is enabled, deletion applies across signed-in devices. Keep the iPhone online and check iCloud storage and service status.
Free local storage
Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage and free space if the device is full, then restart Messages.
Update and retry
Install the current iOS update. If only one managed or synced account resists deletion, contact the account administrator or Apple Support.
