Fix Warzone “Application Unexpectedly Stopped Working”

Source-checked About 10 minutes

Answer

When Warzone shows “The application has unexpectedly stopped working,” note whether it happened before the menu, during Shader Preloading, or in a match. Repair Call of Duty in Steam or Battle.net, install Activision's supported Windows and GPU-driver updates, close the specific conflicting apps Activision names, and repeat the same action. Report a recurring crash with its exact time and code.

Guide steps6 steps
  1. Record where Warzone stopped
  2. Repair the Call of Duty files
  3. Install the supported updates
  4. Close the documented conflicts
  5. Repeat the same action
  6. Submit the crash evidence
  7. If it still does not work

Record where Warzone stopped

Save the full message and any code, then note whether the crash happened before the menu, during Shader Preloading, or after entering a match. Record the time so a later crash report can be matched to the failed session.

Repair the Call of Duty files

In Battle.net, select Call of Duty, open the gear beside Play, and run Scan and Repair. In Steam, right-click Call of Duty in Library and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files; let the selected repair finish.

Install the supported updates

Use Activision's Warzone PC troubleshooting page to install the listed Windows updates and graphics driver for your card. Restart Windows after the installation before testing the same crash point.

Close the documented conflicts

Exit NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, or Razer Cortex if one is running, because Activision currently names them as Warzone conflicts. Do not disable Windows Security, ASLR, or the game's anti-cheat protection.

Repeat the same action

Launch Call of Duty from the repaired client, select Warzone, and stay on the Main Menu until Shader Preloading finishes. Repeat the action from Step 1; reaching and passing that same point without the message is the success check.

Submit the crash evidence

If the exact message returns, submit Activision's PC crash report with its time, code, crash point, launcher, Windows version, GPU and driver version, and repair result. Do not replace DLLs or apply undocumented compatibility flags.

If it does not work

  • If Warzone crashes at a different point after the repair, record the new boundary instead of assuming it has the same cause.
  • If Activision Known Issues or Online Services identifies a current incident, wait for the owner update and retest the same action afterward.
  • If the entire PC restarts or shows a Windows stop code, save that code and use Windows or hardware support; that is broader than a normal Warzone application crash.
Sources and verification

Checked against official documentation on . Scope: Windows, Steam, Battle.net.

Activision does not publish a separate cause for this exact historical message. The page therefore uses only the current supported Warzone PC stability path and does not claim one universal fix.
