To show media that X marks as sensitive, open Settings and privacy, then Privacy and safety, and enable Display media that may contain sensitive content. This setting may be easier to change on x.com than in the iPhone app.
Sign in to X
Open x.com or the official X app and sign in to the account whose media setting you want to change. This preference is attached to the account, not to a single post.
Open Settings and privacy
Open the navigation menu or your profile menu and choose Settings and privacy. Use the settings for the active account if you switch between multiple X accounts.
Open Privacy and safety
Choose Privacy and safety, then look for the Safety section. Do not confuse this with a post-level warning, which is controlled by X's media policy.
Enable the media setting
Enable Display media that may contain sensitive content. On x.com, X places the same control in the Content you see section and saves the change automatically.
Use x.com on iPhone if needed
If you cannot find the control in the iPhone app, sign in at x.com in a browser and change it there. X's help article specifically directs iPhone users to the web route for this setting.
Review content carefully
Return to your timeline or search results and open media only when you are comfortable doing so. The setting changes whether warnings can be shown; it does not make every post appropriate or guaranteed to be available.

- If the checkbox is unavailable, confirm that you are signed in and try x.com in a current browser. Do not install a browser extension that claims to override X warnings.
- If a post still has a warning or is unavailable, the account, post, region, age setting, or X policy can impose a separate restriction. This setting is not an appeal tool.
- If you share the account with someone else, remember that this setting changes what that account can display. Turn it back off when you no longer want sensitive media shown.
