Fix League of Legends “Unable to Connect to Server”

For League's “Unable to connect to server” message, first check Riot's status page for the region where you play. If Riot reports no problem, sign out, close every Riot and League process in Task Manager, turn off any VPN or proxy, and try a custom game. The problem is fixed when the match loading screen appears and the map opens without the message returning.
Open Riot's League status page and select the region where the account plays, such as Europe West or North America. If Riot lists an incident or maintenance at the same time as the message, wait for Riot to clear it. Reinstalling League cannot bring an unavailable server back online.

Restart every Riot and League process
In the Riot Client, select the profile icon > Sign Out. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, which lists programs still running in Windows. End RiotClientServices.exe, LeagueClient, LeagueClientUx, and League of Legends if they remain listed. Reopen the Riot Client and sign in again.

Test without a VPN or heavy downloads
Disconnect any VPN or proxy and pause downloads, cloud backups, and streams. Connect the PC to the router with an Ethernet cable if one is available, then start a custom game. If the match now connects, turn the paused items back on one at a time to find which one caused the connection problem.

Compare another trusted network
If the same message returns, briefly connect the PC to a trusted phone hotspot if the data plan allows it and retry the custom game. A successful hotspot test shows that the League account and installation can connect; focus on the original router or ISP instead of reinstalling the game.

Repair League if both networks fail
Return to the normal network, open Riot Client > profile icon > Settings > League of Legends, and choose Repair. Wait for completion, then retry the same custom game. Repair is relevant only after the service and network comparisons fail.

Verify the server connection
Success means champion select opens the loading screen, the map loads, and the Unable to connect to server message does not return. If both networks still fail while Riot's status page is clear, use Riot Repair Tool to collect logs. It creates a ZIP file containing technical details for support. Send that ZIP to Riot Support with your region, the exact time, the full message, and the results from both networks.
If it does not work
If the Riot Client cannot sign in at all, use the login-session guide instead; this page assumes the account reaches League and fails when connecting to the game server.
If the match loads but feels delayed, measure League's ping with the high-latency guide rather than repeating repair.
If a school or workplace network blocks League, give the administrator Riot's connection requirements. Do not bypass managed network controls.
