League of Legends: How to Fix High Latency and Ping Spikes
Source-checked About 10 minutes
Answer
Check whether the League client reports a regional service issue, stop competing transfers, test Ethernet, restart the router and client, then collect Riot network logs if latency or packet loss remains.
Measure the problem in League
Record the normal and spike ping shown in game, the server region, time, whether packet loss appears, and whether the issue affects every match.
Check Riot service status
Check the Riot service-status page for the selected region. If an incident is active, wait rather than changing Windows or router settings.
Remove local traffic
Pause downloads, cloud backups, streams, VPNs, and other devices using the connection, then test one practice session.
Test the network path
Use Ethernet where possible. Otherwise move closer to Wi-Fi, restart the router and computer, and avoid repeaters for the comparison.
Keep the correct region
Confirm the Riot account and game shard match the intended region. A distant shard produces unavoidable network distance and should not be masked with third-party routing claims.
Update the supported components
Update League, Windows, and the network-adapter driver from Windows Update or the hardware vendor, then restart and retest.
Collect Riot network evidence
If spikes remain, follow Riot network-log guidance and report the timestamp, region, ISP, wired or Wi-Fi result, average ping, spike ping, and packet loss.

If it does not work
- If the labels differ, update the app or launcher and compare the current League of Legends Support guidance before continuing; do not guess at hidden files, registry values, ports, account links, or security controls.
- If the problem survives a clean supported test, preserve the exact error, timestamp, platform, account region, and completed steps for the product owner's support team instead of repeating destructive resets.
