Fix ‘Close Other Riot Games Products’ in Riot Client
Source-checked · About 5 minutes
Answer
The Sign Out button stays locked while Riot Client believes VALORANT or another Riot game is running. Leave any active match, close every Riot game normally, and wait until its Riot Client button changes back to Play. Then open the account menu and select Sign Out. If the message remains with no game open, exit and restart Riot Client; do not delete Riot folders or uninstall Vanguard for a sign-out problem.
In Riot Client, select the account icon in the upper-right corner. Continue only if Sign Out is disabled and the message says Please close other Riot Games products before signing out. This is an account-switching lock, not a VALORANT launch or Vanguard error.
2
Leave the match before closing VALORANT
If VALORANT is in a live match, finish or leave it through the normal game controls first; forcing it closed can create an abandonment penalty. At the VALORANT home screen, select the gear in the upper-right corner, choose Exit to Desktop, and wait for the game window to disappear.
3
Close every other Riot game
Check the Windows taskbar for League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, 2XKO, Legends of Runeterra, or another Riot game opened from the same client. Close each game with its own Exit control. Leave Riot Client open so it can register that the games ended.
4
Wait for the Riot Client button to say Play
Open each installed game's tab in Riot Client. The running game should stop showing Playing and return to Play. When every tab is idle, open the account menu again and select Sign Out. The fix is complete when the Riot login screen appears.
5
End only a game process that stayed behind
If a tab still says Playing after its window closed, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Under Processes, end only the named game that you just closed, such as VALORANT or League of Legends. Return to Riot Client and wait for Play; do not end Vanguard or delete Riot folders.
6
Restart Riot Client if every game is idle
If all tabs say Play but Sign Out remains locked, right-click the Riot Client icon in the Windows notification area and choose Exit. Reopen Riot Client, wait for the home screen, and try the account menu before launching a game.
7
Restart Windows only if the client state is stuck
If Riot Client immediately restores the same false Playing state, restart Windows, open Riot Client by itself, and select Sign Out before pressing Play. Riot's current Client FAQ lists a client restart and then a PC restart for a client state that does not recover.
If it does not work
If Task Manager still shows a Riot game, make sure no match, replay, update, or crash reporter is open before ending that exact game process.
If Sign Out becomes available only after a Windows restart, send Riot Support the client logs and the time the false Playing state appeared; reinstalling Vanguard does not repair an account-menu lock.
If the goal is to remove VALORANT rather than switch accounts, use the uninstall guide after every Riot game and Riot Client are fully closed.
