Fix Honkai: Star Rail Stuck Loading or Not Launching

Source-checked About 15 minutes

Answer

If Star Rail reaches its login or loading screen but never enters the game, test another network and remove VPN, proxy, or custom DNS interference. If clicking Start in HoYoPlay opens nothing or the game closes before login, open the menu beside Start and run Repair Now, then update the active GPU driver if HoYoPlay reports an application error. These are different failures, so start with the branch you can observe.

Guide steps6 steps
  1. Choose the failure you can see
  2. Loading branch: test another connection
  3. Loading branch: remove network overrides
  4. Launch branch: repair Star Rail in HoYoPlay
  5. Launch branch: update the GPU that runs the game
  6. Check the result before reinstalling
  7. If it still does not work

Choose the failure you can see

Click Start in HoYoPlay once. If Star Rail reaches its train, login, or loading screen and then stalls, use the loading branch in steps 2 and 3. If no game window appears, or it closes before the login screen, skip to the launch branch in step 4. Record any code instead of treating a numbered error as a generic loading problem.

Loading branch: test another connection

Connect the PC briefly to a trusted phone hotspot if your data plan allows it, then open Star Rail and select the same server. If your character loads, the game files and account work; reconnect to the original network and focus on that connection instead of reinstalling the game.

Loading branch: remove network overrides

Disconnect any VPN, proxy, custom traffic filter, or third-party network app. In Windows, open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi or Ethernet > DNS server assignment > Edit, choose Automatic (DHCP), and save. Restart the router and PC, then retry the same server.

Launch branch: repair Star Rail in HoYoPlay

Open HoYoPlay directly, select Honkai: Star Rail, open the menu beside Start, and choose Repair Now. Let the resource check finish before clicking Start again. If HoYoPlay shows Get Game although Star Rail is installed, use Locate Game and select the folder that contains StarRail.exe rather than downloading a second copy.

Launch branch: update the GPU that runs the game

Open Task Manager > Performance and identify the NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU used by the PC. Install its current Windows driver from that manufacturer's official site, choosing a clean installation when the installer offers it. Restart Windows, open only HoYoPlay, and click Start once.

Check the result before reinstalling

Success means Start opens one Star Rail window, the loading sequence completes, and the original character appears on the selected server. If it still closes, note the exact time before restarting again. In File Explorer, enter %USERPROFILE% in the address bar, then open AppData > LocalLow > Cognosphere > Star Rail and save Player.log and Player-prev.log while the failure is current.

If it does not work

  • If a hotspot loads the game but home internet does not, keep Star Rail installed and give the home-network provider the failure time, server, and the successful hotspot comparison.
  • If HoYoPlay shows Get Game although the files exist, use Locate Game and select the folder containing StarRail.exe. Do not point it at a shortcut or the HoYoPlay launcher folder.
  • If an error code appears, stop this general sequence and use HoYoverse's instruction for that exact code. Error 2000_0, corrupted-file codes, missing-driver codes, and multiple-instance codes have different repairs.
  • If the game closes again after Repair Now and the current GPU driver, send HoYoverse the UID, PC specifications, exact time, screen recording, Player.log, Player-prev.log, and any .dmp file. Find dump files by entering %USERPROFILE% in File Explorer, then opening AppData > Local > Temp > Cognosphere > Star Rail.
