Windows 11 · Xbox app and Xbox Game Bar on Windows 11
Join Xbox Party Chat on a Windows PC
Source-checked · About 5 minutes
Answer
Sign in to the Xbox app with the account your friends invited, open Friends or Social, select the invitation or friend's profile, and choose Join party. If you cannot hear or speak, check the party mute controls and select the correct microphone and output device in Windows before changing network settings.
In the party window, confirm that your microphone is not muted and that the people you want to hear are not muted locally.
5
Select the correct Windows devices
Open Settings > System > Sound and choose the headset or speakers under Output and the intended microphone under Input. Run the microphone test before returning to the party.
6
Check account restrictions
If Join party is missing, review Xbox privacy, family, and communication settings for the signed-in account. A child or managed account may need an organizer to change them.
7
Rejoin once and record the exact message
Leave the party, close and reopen the Xbox app or Game Bar, then join once more. If it fails, note the exact error and check Xbox service status before resetting the network.
If it does not work
If you hear the party but nobody hears you, check the party mute button, Windows microphone permission, and the selected input device.
If nobody can join, check Xbox service status and whether the party is invite-only before changing router settings.
Do not disable the Windows firewall or router security globally. If one network blocks party chat, keep the exact error and use Xbox Support's connection guidance.
