Network lag means the game keeps drawing normally but abilities activate late, characters jump, or the connection drops. First check Blizzard's realm status, then repeat the same action with downloads and streaming paused. Restart the router and PC, compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi when possible, and use Blizzard's latency guide if World of Warcraft alone still lags. Lowering graphics will not fix high ping.

Check your realm before changing Windows
Open Blizzard's realm-status page and select the correct region. If the realm is unavailable or Blizzard reports maintenance, wait and test again after the service returns.
Pause game updates, cloud backups, large downloads, and high-quality video on the PC and other devices you control. Repeat the same spell, movement, or dungeon area. If the delay disappears, add those activities back one at a time.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
Connect the PC to the router with an Ethernet cable for one test when possible. If Ethernet is stable but Wi-Fi lags, move closer to the router, reconnect to the Wi-Fi network, or reduce interference instead of changing the game.

Restart the network in the right order
Exit the game, turn off the modem and router, wait until their lights go out, then power on the modem first and the router second. Wait for the connection to return, restart the PC, and test again.

Compare another realm or online app
When possible, compare a character on another available realm and one other online app. If everything lags, focus on the home network or internet provider. If only one WoW realm is affected, record the realm and time for Blizzard.

Use Blizzard's latency help
If World of Warcraft alone still lags, follow Blizzard's latency article and contact support with the region, realm, date and time, connection type, and the steps already tried. That evidence is more useful than changing DNS addresses at random.
Do not use a VPN as an automatic ping fix. It can add another route and make it harder to identify whether the realm, home network, or internet provider is causing the delay.
If only the picture is choppy while abilities respond on time, stop here and troubleshoot FPS. Network and graphics problems need different fixes.
A DNS server helps the PC find addresses, but changing it is not a reliable way to shorten the live route to a World of Warcraft realm.
