Troubleshoot a blank or black screen in Windows

Answer
Wake and reset the graphics output, cycle display modes, check cables and monitors, open the security screen to restart Windows Explorer, then use Safe Mode for driver recovery if the screen remains blank.
Reset the graphics output
Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B once. Listen for a beep or watch for the display to refresh.
Cycle display modes
Press Windows + P, then press P and Enter to try the next projection mode. Repeat slowly if an external screen may be selected.
Check the display connection
Reseat the video cable, try the monitor's correct input, and disconnect unnecessary displays or docks.
Restart Windows Explorer
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. If the security screen appears, open Task Manager and restart Windows Explorer, or use File > Run new task and enter explorer.exe.
Use Safe Mode for driver checks
If the screen remains blank, start Windows Recovery and Safe Mode, then roll back or update the display driver using Microsoft's procedure.
