Fix the Battery Icon Missing from the Windows 11 Taskbar

Source-checked About 10 minutes

Answer

The battery icon is built into Windows on devices with a detected battery. Restart Windows Explorer, restart the device, install Windows updates, and check Batteries in Device Manager. If Windows no longer detects a battery, taskbar personalization cannot bring the icon back.

Confirm this is a battery-powered device

On a laptop or tablet, open Settings > System > Power & battery. If that page shows no battery information, skip taskbar customization and check detection.

Check hidden tray icons

Select the tray overflow arrow. On current Windows 11 builds, the system battery icon itself is not a normal on/off personalization toggle.

Restart Windows Explorer

Open Task Manager, select Windows Explorer, and choose Restart. Wait for the taskbar to return.

Restart and update Windows

Choose Restart from the power menu, then install pending Windows updates and restart again if asked.

Check Device Manager

Open Device Manager and expand Batteries. Use Action > Scan for hardware changes. Do not uninstall a battery device unless the computer maker tells you to.

Run the maker's battery test

Use the laptop maker's support app or startup diagnostics. Save any failure code or message.

Verify the tray

Reconnect power and disconnect it once. Confirm the icon changes state and Power & battery reports a percentage.

If it does not work

  • If the battery is swollen, the case is lifting, or there is unusual heat, power off and arrange service.
  • If Device Manager has no Batteries section after restart, update the maker's chipset or firmware through its official support page.
  • If the battery works but only the icon is missing, create a new Windows user for one test before resetting the PC.
