Fix WhatsApp 'No Valid QR Code Detected' When Linking a Device

Open WhatsApp's official web or desktop client, start Linked devices on the phone, and scan the full unexpired linking QR code. Profile, contact, cropped, or expired codes cannot link WhatsApp.

Open an official linking screen

Use web.whatsapp.com or the current WhatsApp desktop app. Avoid QR codes shown by search results, third-party pages, messages, or screenshots.

Open WhatsApp Web

Update WhatsApp on the phone

Install the current update from the official app store, open WhatsApp, and confirm the account works before linking another device.

Open Linked devices

On iPhone, open WhatsApp > Settings > Linked devices; on Android, open More options > Linked devices. Choose Link a device and authenticate.

Scan the complete code

Point the phone at the entire QR code shown by WhatsApp Web or Desktop. Keep all four corners visible, clean the lens, and hold steady.

Refresh an expired code

If the code expires, reload the official page to create a new one and scan it immediately instead of using a saved image.

Update the desktop app

If only Desktop fails, download its current official build, close the old app, install the update, and retry.

Reset only the web session

If Web alone fails, remove only web.whatsapp.com's site data, reopen the official page, and try a fresh code. Do not clear unrelated browser data.

If it does not work

If the camera cannot focus, improve lighting, clean the lens, allow WhatsApp camera permission, and enlarge the browser window without cropping the code.
If both clients fail, verify date, time, and internet access, then record the phone model, app version, and exact error for WhatsApp Support.
