Fix VALORANT Freezing on Windows 11

Source-checked About 20 minutes

Answer

First note whether VALORANT freezes before the menu, while loading a match, or during play. Check Riot's status, restart the client and PC, install Windows and graphics-driver updates, and test with overlays and tuning tools closed. If the same freeze returns, repair the client and collect Riot logs. Change graphics settings only when the game reaches its menu.

Identify the freeze point

Write down the last visible screen and whether sound, mouse, or Windows still responds. Note if the problem happens in every match.

Check Riot's service status

If Riot lists a current incident for your region, wait before changing the computer.

Restart cleanly

Exit Riot Client, restart Windows, and launch with screen overlays, recorders, RGB tools, and GPU tuning utilities closed.

Update Windows and the graphics driver

Install pending Windows updates and the current driver from the GPU or computer maker. Restart before the next test.

Lower settings only if the menu opens

In VALORANT Video settings, use a lower preset or resolution and cap the frame rate for one repeatable test. Change one setting at a time.

Repair VALORANT

Open Riot Client Settings, select VALORANT, and run Repair. Test the same practice area or match condition afterward.

Collect logs after one repeat

If it freezes again, note the exact time, run Riot Repair Tool, and send the logs with the Windows and driver versions to Riot Support.

If it does not work

  • If Windows also freezes outside VALORANT, stop game-specific changes and check temperatures, storage, memory, and Windows reliability instead.
  • If the freeze began immediately after a graphics-driver update, use the hardware maker's documented rollback or clean-install path.
  • Do not force a high-performance GPU unless the PC actually has more than one graphics adapter and Windows selected the wrong one.
