Share Google Photos With a Link
Source-checked About 10 minutes
Answer
Select the photo, video, or album in Google Photos, tap Share, then choose Create link. Anyone with the link may be able to view the shared content.
Choose content that is safe to share
Open Google Photos and inspect every photo, video, or album you intend to include. Check backgrounds, location clues, faces, documents, and other private details. A link can be forwarded beyond the original recipients, so do not treat link sharing as identity-verified access.
Select the item or album
Open the photo, video, or album and tap Share. For multiple items, use Select first and mark each intended item. Recheck the selection count before continuing so adjacent photos are not included accidentally.
Create the sharing link
Choose Create link when Google Photos offers it and wait for the link to be prepared. Copy the generated link or send it through the intended app. Use Google's generated share URL rather than copying the browser address from your private library view.
Test what recipients can see
Open the link in a private browser window or a different signed-out device. Confirm that it opens only the intended content and does not expose an album you meant to keep private. Remember that recipients may be able to save their own copies.
Manage the shared item later
Open Google Photos sharing or the shared album to review active conversations, albums, and links. Depending on what you shared, Google may offer controls for collaboration, comments, likes, or adding photos. Disable features that are not needed for the audience.
Stop sharing when access is no longer needed
Use the shared item's options to turn off link sharing or delete the shared link when appropriate. This stops future access through that link, but it cannot recall copies that recipients already downloaded, saved, or redistributed.
Video walkthrough
If it does not work
- If recipients cannot open the link, confirm link sharing is still enabled and test the generated URL while signed out.
- If the wrong items are visible, disable the link immediately, correct the selection, and generate a new share link.
