Forgot Your Apple ID Password? Reset Your Apple Account Password

Source-checked About 10 minutes

Answer

An iPhone does not reveal the current Apple Account password in Apple Account settings. On a trusted iPhone, reset it through Sign-In & Security; without a trusted device, use Apple's official recovery options.

Guide steps7 steps
  1. Use a trusted device when possible
  2. Open Sign-In & Security
  3. Choose Change Password
  4. Expect a possible security delay
  5. Use a borrowed device safely
  6. Use web recovery when necessary
  7. Verify and secure access
  8. If it still does not work

Use a trusted device when possible

Use an iPhone already signed in to your Apple Account and protected with a device passcode. Apple describes this as the easiest and most secure reset method.

Open Sign-In & Security

Open Settings, tap your name, then tap Sign-In & Security. Confirm the displayed Apple Account is yours before changing credentials.

Choose Change Password

Tap Change Password, enter the iPhone passcode when asked, then follow the onscreen instructions to create and confirm a new Apple Account password.

Expect a possible security delay

When Stolen Device Protection applies away from familiar locations, Apple can require a one-hour security delay before critical account changes. Do not bypass or repeatedly restart that safeguard.

Use a borrowed device safely

Without your own trusted device, open the Apple Support app on a borrowed Apple device, choose Reset Password, then Help Someone Else. Enter your own account details; Apple says they are not stored on the borrowed device.

Use web recovery when necessary

Use iforgot.apple.com when a trusted-device method is unavailable and follow Apple's prompts. Account recovery can take longer than a trusted-device reset.

Verify and secure access

Sign in to the intended Apple service with the new password, review trusted phone numbers and devices, and update only your own password manager entry. Never share verification codes or the new password.

If it does not work

  • If the account is locked, inactive, or disabled, follow the exact Apple alert and official account-access process rather than guessing passwords.
  • A password saved for apple.com in the Passwords app is a website credential record; do not claim it necessarily reveals the current Apple Account password.
