Install Microsoft Copilot as an Edge App on Windows
Source-checked · About 10 minutes
Answer
Windows 11 now has an official Microsoft Copilot app, often preinstalled and otherwise available from Microsoft Store. If you specifically want Copilot as an Edge site app, open copilot.com in Edge, select Settings and more (…) > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app, confirm Install, then verify it at `edge://apps`. An Edge site app still depends on Edge, the Copilot website, and an internet connection.
1
Choose the native or Edge version
Open Start and search for Copilot. If the official native app is present and that is what you want, open it and stop. Otherwise use Microsoft's official Store route. The consumer Windows app signs in with a personal Microsoft account; work or school access can use a different organization-approved entry point.
2
Open the official Copilot site
In Microsoft Edge, type `https://copilot.com` into the address bar and verify that the Microsoft Copilot page loads. Basic use may be available without signing in, while a Microsoft account enables additional features and history.
3
Install the site as an Edge app
Select Settings and more (…) in the top-right corner, then More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app. If Edge shows an install icon in the address bar, it opens the same installation choice.
4
Confirm and verify the app
Confirm the name, choose Install, and wait for Copilot to open in a separate window. In Edge, open `edge://apps`; Copilot should appear there. Select Details or Open to confirm it is the site app you just installed.
5
Add only the shortcuts you want
At `edge://apps`, open Copilot's Details page and use Pin to taskbar, Pin to Start, or Create Desktop shortcut as needed. These shortcuts still open the Edge-based site app and require internet access.
6
Remove the correct Copilot app
To remove only the Edge site app, open `edge://apps`, select Copilot > Details > Uninstall, and decide whether to clear its app data. This does not remove the separate Microsoft Store Copilot app.

If it does not work
If the Install command is missing, update Edge and verify the current nested path under More tools > Apps; a normal copilot.com bookmark remains a safe alternative.
If an obsolete Bing shortcut opens instead, inspect edge://apps and remove only that old site app before installing the current Copilot site.
If a work or school account is refused, use your organization's approved Copilot entry point instead of forcing it through the personal Windows app.
If the installed app still resembles a browser window, that is expected: an Edge site app is not an offline native AI model.
