First complete Roblox's age check; chat cannot be enabled before it succeeds. Then open Settings > Privacy & content restrictions > Communication > Experience chat and allow chat for the available audience. A linked parent must approve Experience chat for ages 5–9 and Direct chat for users under 16, and availability can also depend on region and the game.
Open Roblox Settings > Account info and inspect the Birthday or age-check area. If Roblox offers Continue with ID or facial age estimation, use only the official flow and the account holder's accurate information; phone verification does not replace the current chat age check.
After the age check succeeds, go to Settings > Privacy & content restrictions > Communication > Experience chat. Choose the available option that allows chat with the intended age-appropriate group; Roblox may show fewer choices based on age and region.

Ask the linked parent to review controls
For a child account, the linked parent should open Settings > Parental Controls > Settings You Manage > Communication > Experience chat. Ages 5–9 require parent approval for Experience chat, and users under 16 require approval for Direct chat; do not change the birthday or create another account to bypass these controls.

Check the experience
Join a game that supports Experience chat and tap the chat icon at the top left, or press / on a keyboard. If the chat window opens there but not in the original game, that game's developer has disabled chat or uses separate controls.

Distinguish missing chat from filtered text
If the input opens but words become hashtags, chat is working and Roblox's filter blocked the text. Rephrase it without personal information or prohibited language; settings changes cannot bypass filtering or an account moderation notice.

Verify the result
Return to a chat-enabled game, open the chat window, send a harmless message, and confirm it appears. If the eligible control remains missing, record the platform, region, age-check result, and whether a linked parent approved it before contacting Roblox Support.

If it does not work
If pressing / does not open chat on an international keyboard, try the backslash key once; Roblox documents this as a keyboard-specific alternative. If the on-screen chat icon is also absent, test another chat-enabled game.
If the settings page says an age check or parental permission is required, complete that requirement through Roblox. Reinstalling the app, changing devices, or changing the birthday does not grant eligibility.
If chat works in other games only, contact the original game's developer rather than changing the Roblox account's safety controls.
