Understand what will be removed
This procedure turns off the device passcode on an iPhone you own and can already unlock. It is not a lock-screen bypass and does not recover a forgotten passcode. Turning it off weakens protection for personal data and disables passcode-dependent features, so consider changing the passcode instead when the aim is only to make it easier to remember.
Open the passcode settings
Open Settings, then tap Face ID & Passcode on a Face ID model or Touch ID & Passcode on a model with Touch ID. Enter the current device passcode when prompted. Do not share that code or enter it on a website, message, or tool claiming it can unlock the phone remotely.
Choose the correct action
Scroll to Turn Passcode Off and tap it. Review the warning and confirm only when you intend to remove the lock entirely. If you only want a different code, choose Change Passcode instead and follow Apple's prompts for a new code and any available passcode options.
Authenticate the change
Enter the current passcode again and complete any Apple Account verification the iPhone requests. Keep the device with you until Settings returns to the passcode page. Lock the screen and wake it once to confirm the result rather than assuming the option was applied.
Restore protection if the result was unintended
If the phone now opens without authentication and that was not your goal, return to the same settings page and choose Turn Passcode On. Set a strong code you can retain securely, then confirm Face ID or Touch ID still works for the intended features.
Troubleshoot a missing or unavailable control
If Turn Passcode Off is absent, greyed out, or a different credential is requested, stop before removing profiles or resetting the phone. A work or school management policy, account restriction, or security feature may require a passcode. Check the exact message and contact the device administrator or Apple Support for that policy-specific case.
