If you are authorized and know the required password, remove the PDF's password security in Acrobat and save a new copy; unknown passwords cannot be recovered.
Use this only for a PDF you own or are authorized to modify and when you know the required password. A document-open password and a permissions password protect different actions. This procedure removes known security in Acrobat; it does not discover, crack, or bypass an unknown password or a policy applied by an organization.

Open an authorized working copy
Duplicate the PDF before changing its security, then open the copy in Adobe Acrobat and enter the document-open password if requested. Confirm the file renders correctly and that digital signatures, forms, attachments, or certification requirements do not make an unprotected copy inappropriate for the intended workflow.

Open the security properties
In current Acrobat, open All tools > Protect a PDF, then choose Set security properties or the available security settings. Review the Security Method and restrictions so you know which protection is being removed. Interface labels can differ by Acrobat version, but do not upload a confidential PDF to an unknown password-removal site.

Remove the known password protection
Clear the option that requires a password for opening or restricts editing and printing, as applicable. Enter the current password when Acrobat asks and confirm the change. If the security method is managed by a certificate, server policy, or organization, stop and contact the document owner or administrator rather than forcing a different method.
Save under a new filename, close Acrobat, and reopen the new file to verify it no longer requests the removed password and that pages, links, forms, and permissions still behave as intended. Keep the protected original until the authorized recipient confirms the replacement is usable.

Troubleshoot an unavailable removal control
If Acrobat says you lack permission, the password is rejected, or security settings are locked, confirm which password the owner supplied and whether the file is certified or policy-protected. An Acrobat Reader-only workflow may not expose the required editing control. Do not treat an online cracking service as a safe fallback for confidential or copyrighted material.
