Fix “Unable to Connect to World” in Minecraft Mobile
Source-checked · About 15 minutes
Answer
Both players must use the current Bedrock release, sign into the intended Microsoft accounts, and be Minecraft friends. The host must be online with the world open and Multiplayer enabled, while the guest must have permission to join multiplayer games. Retry from Play > Friends > Joinable Friends before changing network settings.
Record whether the error occurs with a friend's world, a Realm, or a custom server. The host requirements and escalation path differ.
2
Update both mobile clients
Install the current Minecraft update from Apple App Store or Google Play on both devices. Both players must use compatible Bedrock releases, not a preview or beta on only one device.
3
Check the host world
The host selects Play > Worlds, uses the pencil beside the world, opens Multiplayer, enables Multiplayer game and the intended player access, then starts the world and stays online.
4
Check accounts, friendship, and permission
Both players sign into the intended Microsoft accounts and confirm they are Minecraft friends. The guest must have Microsoft/Xbox permission to join multiplayer games.
5
Retry from Joinable Friends
On the guest device, select Play > Friends and choose the host under Joinable Friends. Success means the guest spawns in the host's world.
6
Use the network branch only when every destination fails
On a personal network, confirm websites load, pause downloads or streams, move closer to Wi-Fi, return custom DNS to Automatic, and check that a VPN or firewall is not blocking Minecraft. Then retry the same world.
If it does not work
If the friend is absent, confirm the host is online in the open world and both accounts are friends.
If Minecraft says Multiplayer is disabled, correct the Microsoft family permission rather than resetting the phone.
For one Realm or custom server only, confirm its owner, subscription or status, address, port, and version before changing the device.
