Minecraft Launcher normally updates automatically. If its update stalls, open Windows App settings and select Repair first. If that fails, back up worlds, use Reset, run WSReset, and then run the Xbox Gaming Services Repair Tool.
Note the message, code, and whether the Launcher freezes, repeatedly restarts, or never finishes its own update. This procedure is for the Launcher update, not a game-version download.

Repair the Launcher
Search Start for Minecraft Launcher, right-click it, open App settings, and select Repair. Reopen the Launcher and allow the update to retry.

Back up, then reset if needed
If Repair fails, back up local worlds. Return to App settings, select Reset, sign in again, and retry. Reset may remove app data.

Reset Microsoft Store cache
Press Windows+R, enter `wsreset.exe`, select OK, and wait for Microsoft Store to reopen. Start the Launcher again.

Repair Gaming Services
In the Xbox app, open the profile menu > Support > Gaming Services Repair Tool > Start Troubleshooting. Retry after it completes.

Verify the update
Success means the Launcher completes its update and reaches game selection without the same stall. If it crashes or shows This App Can't Open instead, use Minecraft's crash-and-freeze branch and preserve the exact symptom for Support.
If it does not work
Repair is the least destructive app action; back up worlds before Reset or reinstall.
Do not run the Launcher as administrator, delete `.minecraft`, or change graphics drivers for an updater stall unless a separate exact error requires it.
