Resize an Image in Microsoft Paint Without Distortion

Source-checked About 10 minutes

Answer

Open Resize in Paint, keep Maintain aspect ratio enabled, enter pixels or a percentage, and save a copy so the original remains available.

Guide steps4 steps
  1. Open a copy
  2. Open Resize
  3. Keep proportions
  4. Save and verify
  5. If it still does not work

Open a copy

Open the image in Paint and choose Save as first when you need to preserve the original.

Open Resize

Select Resize and choose Pixels for an exact output size or Percentage for a relative change.

Keep proportions

Enable Maintain aspect ratio and change width or height; Paint calculates the other dimension.

Save and verify

Save in an appropriate format and confirm dimensions and clarity. Enlarging a small image cannot restore missing detail.

If it does not work

  • If the result is stretched, undo the resize and repeat it with Maintain aspect ratio enabled. If an enlarged image looks soft or pixelated, return to the original; Paint cannot recreate detail that was not in the source image.
