How to Use WhatsApp on Another Phone or Device
Source-checked About 10 minutes
Answer
Link another phone, computer, or browser from WhatsApp's Linked devices screen instead of registering the same number again. Scan only a QR code you initiated and review the linked-device list after synchronization finishes.
Prepare the second device
Install or open the official WhatsApp app, WhatsApp Web, or WhatsApp Desktop on the device you want to add. Keep the primary registered phone available and connected while linking.
Choose the linked-device option
On a second phone, choose Link to existing account or the equivalent option so it displays a QR code. Do not type the primary number into a fresh registration flow unless you intend to move the account.
Open Linked devices on the primary phone
On Android, open WhatsApp's menu and choose Linked devices. On iPhone, open WhatsApp Settings and choose Linked Devices.
Start linking and authenticate
Tap Link a device and complete the phone's biometric or passcode check when requested. Stop if WhatsApp presents a device or location you do not recognize.
Scan the QR code
Use the primary phone to scan the QR code shown on the second device. Never scan a code sent by another person or displayed on an unexpected website.
Wait for synchronization and verify
Keep both devices online until recent chats load, then reopen Linked devices on the primary phone and confirm the new device name and last-active information are expected.
Video walkthrough
If it does not work
- WhatsApp supports a primary phone with additional linked devices, but device limits and feature availability can change; follow the current Linked devices screen rather than forcing another registration.
- If a device appears that you did not add, log it out immediately, review account security, and never share a registration or device-linking code.
