Fix a Missing Edit Post Option in Facebook on iPhone

Source-checked About 5 minutes

Answer

Open the post you created, select its three-dot menu, and choose Edit post. If Edit post is missing, first confirm that you are viewing your own post and using the correct personal profile or Page identity. Then update Facebook and try the same post at facebook.com in Safari before deleting or reposting it.

  2. Check the active identity
  3. Open the post menu
  4. Make and save the edit
  5. Update the iPhone app
  6. Try Facebook in Safari
  7. If it still does not work

Open the exact post

Find the post on your profile, Page, group, or activity history. Make sure it is the post you created, not a shared copy from another account.

Check the active identity

Look at the profile picture and name currently active in Facebook. If a Page published the post, switch into that Page with an account that has the needed access.

Open the post menu

Select the three dots at the top-right of the post. Choose Edit post when it appears.

Make and save the edit

Change the text or available details, then select Save. Reopen the post once to verify the public result.

Update the iPhone app

If Edit post is missing from your own post, install the current Facebook update, close the app, reopen it, and check again.

Try Facebook in Safari

Sign in at facebook.com, open the same post, and check its three-dot menu. Do this before deleting a post that already has comments or engagement.

If it does not work

  • If the post belongs to another person, use your own caption on a new share; you cannot edit their original content.
  • If a Page post is involved, confirm that you switched into the Page and have permission to manage its content.
  • If neither the app nor website offers Edit post, use Facebook Help for that exact post type instead of repeatedly deleting and recreating it.
