Cancel an App Subscription on iPhone and Check Its Expiry

Source-checked About 3 minutes

Answer

Open Settings > your name > Subscriptions, choose the service, then tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. A red expiration message or no Cancel button means it is already canceled. Deleting the app does not stop the subscription, and canceling does not automatically refund an earlier charge.

Guide steps4 steps
  1. Open the subscription list
  2. Choose the service
  3. Cancel and confirm
  4. Find a subscription that is missing
  5. If it still does not work

Open the subscription list

Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Check that the Apple Account shown at the top is the one that bought the service; the list only contains subscriptions billed through that account by Apple.

Choose the service

Under Active, tap the exact service you want to stop. Read the plan name and renewal date before changing anything so you do not cancel a different tier or another active subscription.

Cancel and confirm

Scroll down, tap Cancel Subscription, and confirm when asked. Stop when the page shows an expiration message in red or no longer shows a Cancel button; Apple says either state means the subscription is already canceled. Note the red expiration date before leaving the page.

Find a subscription that is missing

Search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple,” then open the matching receipt and check which Apple Account made the purchase. Sign in with that account and repeat Step 1. If the receipt names another company—or there is no Apple receipt—cancel with that billing company instead; Apple cannot cancel a subscription it did not bill.

If it does not work

  • If there is no Cancel button and the page shows an expiration message in red, do not keep troubleshooting—the subscription is already canceled.
  • If the service is absent, check the Apple Account named on the receipt. A family organizer cannot cancel a family member's subscription from the organizer's own list; the family member who bought it must use their account.
  • If you were already charged, canceling prevents the next renewal but does not automatically reverse the earlier charge. Use Apple's separate refund request page; eligibility varies by purchase and region.
  • If the charge is not on an Apple receipt, use the provider named on the receipt or bank statement. Do not send Apple Account credentials or payment details to a third-party cancellation service.
Sources and verification

Checked against official documentation on . Scope: iPhone & iPad.

Source-checked against current Apple guidance. The page is deliberately image-free: the path contains self-identifying controls, while a real Subscriptions screen exposes personal services and account data. The success state—red expiration text or no Cancel button—is more useful than a generic screenshot.
