How to Fix No Sound on Instagram Stories on iPhone
Source-checked About 10 minutes
Answer
First determine whether audio is missing only in Instagram Stories or across the iPhone. Correct the active volume and output, restart or update Instagram, and report the issue to Instagram when other apps play sound normally.
Test the affected Story
Open a Story that should contain audio and raise media volume while it plays. Test a second Story because an individual post can be silent or have no audio track.
Check iPhone sound and output
Turn off Silent mode, then verify that sound is not being sent to an unintended Bluetooth or AirPlay device. Test another app; if every app is silent, follow Apple's speaker troubleshooting rather than treating this as an Instagram bug.
Close and reopen Instagram
Open the app switcher, swipe Instagram away, then reopen it and replay the same Story. Do not close every background app or change Screen Time settings as a sound remedy.
Restart iPhone
Restart the iPhone using Apple's normal power-off process, reopen Instagram, and repeat the same comparison Story after the device reconnects.
Install current updates
Open the App Store, check for an Instagram update, and install it. If Instagram is current, open Settings > General > Software Update and install the current stable iOS update when appropriate.
Reinstall only after preserving work
If the problem affects Instagram alone, preserve any important drafts before deleting and redownloading the app. Apple warns that deleting an app can remove data stored in it.
Report an Instagram-only failure
If other apps play normally and Stories remain silent, use Instagram's in-app Report a Problem flow and include the iPhone model, iOS version, Instagram version, and whether every Story is affected.

If it does not work
- If headphones work but the built-in speaker does not, continue with Apple's speaker or service guidance rather than reinstalling Instagram repeatedly.
- If only one Story is silent, the uploaded media can be the cause; compare several known-audio Stories before reporting an app-wide problem.
