Instagram no longer provides a universal control that can force the old “Messenger update” prompt to appear. Update Instagram and check the current Messages controls for that account; if a supported messaging feature is missing, report the problem in Instagram because availability can vary by account, age, and region.
Install the latest Instagram version from the App Store or Google Play, open it, and confirm you are signed into the intended account.

Check the current Messages interface
Open the Instagram inbox and Settings and activity > Messages and story replies. Use the controls that are currently shown instead of looking for an older Update Messaging banner.

Check account restrictions
Review the account’s birthday, privacy settings, supervision or Family Center settings, and region. Some messaging controls are unavailable to teen accounts or vary by location.

Refresh the app safely
Close Instagram, restart the phone, and try again on a reliable connection. Before reinstalling, confirm you know the password and can receive the account’s security code.

Compare account-specific availability
If possible, check another eligible account on the same updated device. When one account has the feature and another does not, device resets or unofficial APKs will not force the account-side rollout.

Report a missing supported feature
Open Settings and activity > Help > Report a problem, describe the missing Messages control, and attach a screenshot plus the app version. Do not use modified apps, region spoofing, or services claiming to activate the legacy update.
