For GTA V crashes on Epic Games, first remove mods, which are unofficial changes such as ReShade, scripts, or replacement game files. Clear the optional command boxes in Epic and Rockstar Games Launcher, then verify GTA V from Epic Library > three dots > Manage > Verify. If GTA V Legacy says it “exited unexpectedly,” choose Safe Mode once; this starts the game with lower graphics settings. A mod is an unofficial change to the game. Disable or uninstall every mod through the tool that added it, including ReShade, Special_K, ASI plugins, script hooks, and replacement game files. Clear optional startup commands
Launch options are extra text commands that change how a game starts. In Epic Games Launcher, open Library > three dots beside Grand Theft Auto V > Manage, turn Launch Options off, and empty the text box. Then open Rockstar Games Launcher > Settings > Grand Theft Auto V and leave Launch arguments blank. Start GTA V from the Epic Library, not a desktop shortcut or batch file.

Verify GTA V in Epic
Open Epic Games Launcher > Library, select the three dots beside Grand Theft Auto V, and choose Manage > Verify. Wait for validation and any replacement download to finish. Launch the game once before restoring a mod or launch argument.

Use Safe Mode for the Legacy crash dialog
If Grand Theft Auto V Legacy says it exited unexpectedly and offers Retry or Safe Mode, choose Safe Mode. This starts Legacy with reduced graphics settings. If the title screen now opens, keep the reduced settings for one test and raise GTA V's Graphics options one at a time later. Enhanced users should skip this Legacy-only dialog step.

Repeat the exact crash point twice
Load the same character, mission checkpoint, road, or GTA Online activity that closed the game. Repeat that point twice without mods. The crash is resolved only if the same action completes both times; merely reaching the title screen does not confirm a gameplay-crash repair.

Send Rockstar the crash evidence
If the unmodified, verified copy still crashes, open %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTAV and keep launcher.log. Create DxDiag and MSInfo reports, note whether the game is Enhanced or Legacy, and tell Rockstar the exact mission or action that repeats the crash. DxDiag lists the PC's graphics and sound hardware, while MSInfo includes Windows error reports.
If it does not work
If Legacy opens only in Safe Mode, leave the reduced settings active and restore GTA V Graphics options one at a time until the failing option is identified.
If the crash occurs only when joining official GTA Online, open Rockstar Games Launcher > Settings and make sure BattlEye is enabled; an unmodified Story Mode test does not exercise the same anti-cheat path.
If Windows names C++, D3D, or DirectX in the crash, run the matching installer from GTA V's Redistributables folder as Rockstar directs. Do not download individual DLL files from a fix site.
