Run Forza Horizon 4's built-in benchmark before changing settings. Turn on Dynamic Optimization when it is available, lower Dynamic Render Quality or the main graphics preset one level, and run the benchmark again. Keep the game at a frame-rate limit the PC can hold, close background downloads, and update Windows and the graphics driver before using file repair.
Forza Horizon 4 was removed from digital stores in December 2024, but existing owners can still download and play it. Do not buy a key from an unfamiliar reseller to follow this performance guide.
Compare the processor, memory, graphics card, and video memory with Forza's PC specifications. If the PC is below the minimum, a settings change cannot guarantee smooth play.
Open the game's settings and run Benchmark Mode. Save the average and minimum FPS plus the suggested preset, then use the benchmark again after every meaningful change.

Try Dynamic Optimization
In Video settings, turn on Dynamic Optimization when it appears and choose a Dynamic Render Quality the PC can maintain. This lets the game reduce detail when needed instead of repeatedly dropping far below the target FPS.
5
Lower the preset one level
In Advanced Video settings, lower the graphics preset by one level. Keep the monitor's normal resolution first, then reduce resolution only if the lower preset is not enough. Restart the game after changing MSAA if the picture becomes corrupted or scenery pops incorrectly.
6
Stop competing work
Let game installation and updates finish before playing, then pause other downloads and close recording or monitoring tools you do not need. Forza lists playing while installing and insufficient memory for the selected quality settings as known causes of severe performance problems.
Install current Windows and graphics-driver updates and restart the PC. For a Steam copy, verify the game files and rerun the benchmark before considering a full reinstall.
If FPS drops during the Initial Drive or after a quality increase, lower the preset first. Forza identifies insufficient memory for the selected quality settings as a cause of stalls and large drops.
If changing MSAA causes black corruption on an AMD graphics card or visible scenery problems, restart the game before judging the new setting.
If the Microsoft Store or Xbox app version is affected, use that app's Repair option instead of following the Steam-only file-verification path.
