Each player needs an Epic account and the exact Epic display name, which can differ from a console or mobile account name. Check spelling, spaces, and numbers directly in the account or Fortnite profile before searching.
2
Open Fortnite's social controls
Launch Fortnite on a currently supported mobile device, enter the lobby, and select the profile or social icon. If the device uses cloud gaming, menu placement can vary but the Epic friends list remains tied to the signed-in Epic account.
3
Search for the display name
Choose Add Friends, enter the complete Epic display name, and compare the returned account carefully. Do not post account email addresses, passwords, or authentication codes to identify a player.
4
Send the friend request
Select the correct result and choose Add Friend. Wait for Fortnite's confirmation; repeated requests or a full pending list can prevent another request from being created.
Ask the other person to open their Fortnite social panel, review incoming requests, and accept the exact account. After acceptance, confirm both players see each other online before creating a party.
6
Review privacy and parental controls
If search or requests are restricted, check Epic parental controls, cabined-account status, age settings, and friend-request permissions with the parent or guardian. Do not bypass those controls by sharing accounts.
7
Use the Epic Games Launcher only as a supported fallback
Because Epic friends are account-based, the same signed-in account may manage friends through another supported Epic interface. Verify the account first so you do not add the person to a different Fortnite profile.

If it does not work
If no result appears, have both players copy their current Epic display names, check for an existing pending request or block, restart Fortnite, and verify Epic service status. If one account is supervised, the organizer must resolve the communication restriction; reinstalling the game will not change account-level permissions.
