Open up Fortnite and tap the Social icon on the top left of your screen. You will see your Friends list, online status, and an option to Add Friends. Tap on it, and then you can enter the Epic Games display name of the user you wish to add.

Add Friends using the Epic Games launcher

If you have issues adding friends using the Fortnite mobile version, you can also use the Epic Games launcher. Your Epic Games account is linked to your Fortnite mobile account so you can use the launcher on your PC. Click on the social icon on the top right, and from here; you also have the option to Search or add players.
