Open up Facebook on your browser. If you’re using a mobile device, then use your chrome, safari, or other browser you have available. After logging into your account, click on the Messenger icon on the top right of your screen. When clicking on the burger menu icon, you should be able to see this Active Status option.

Appear Offline to All Friends & Connections

Select it, which will open this pop-up menu. You have the option to set your Active Status to OFF, which will make you appear offline for all friends and connections that can see your active or recently active status in Messenger.

Alternatively, you can leave the overall Active Status option enabled, and appear offline for a selection of users. This can be done by clicking on Edit for Active Status: OFF for some. Look up the users and add them to this list before clicking on Save. This will allow you to appear offline on Facebook Messenger to all or a selection of friends.
