Unable To Send Or Receive Friend Invites Fix For Epic Games

First check Epic's Friends service, then use Epic Games Launcher > Friends > Add friend and search the exact Epic display name. Epic documents four common blockers: the recipient has 500 incoming requests, you have 500 pending outgoing requests, the other player has already sent you a request, or one of you blocked the other on a linked platform; parental controls, Auto Decline Friend Requests, and the 1,000-friend cap can also prevent the request.
Check the service and both accounts
Open Epic's status page and check Epic Online Services > Friends; wait if it reports an incident. Confirm both people are using their Epic display names and the intended Epic accounts, not only a console or platform nickname.
Send one request through the Launcher
Open Epic Games Launcher, select the double-silhouette Friends icon in the top-right, then select the silhouette with a plus sign. Search the exact Epic display name, open the correct profile result, and select Add friend once.
Check for a reverse or duplicate request
Before sending again, inspect the Requests area for an incoming request from that player and accept it if appropriate. If the profile already says the request is pending, do not repeat it; ask the other player to check their own Requests view.
Reduce pending outgoing requests
If your account has 500 pending outgoing requests, open Friends, search a person with a pending request, and select Cancel Request; repeat only for requests you genuinely no longer want. The other player must clear their own incoming queue if their account has reached 500.
Check friend-list and block limits
If either account has 1,000 friends, that account must remove an existing friend before adding another. Also check whether either person blocked the other on a linked PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam, or other external platform, and change that platform block only with the account owner's consent.
Check Auto Decline and parental controls
If the receiving account uses Fortnite, open Main Menu > Settings > Account and Privacy > Social Privacy and make sure Auto Decline Friend Requests is Off. For accept-friend-request.error, the account owner or guardian can use Epic Account Settings > Parental Controls > Social Permissions to review Require PIN to add Epic Friends; do not bypass a guardian's restriction.
Verify the request end to end
Send one fresh request and have the recipient confirm it appears under Requests, then accept it. Both accounts should show each other in Friends; that two-sided result verifies the problem is resolved rather than merely hiding the error.

If it does not work
- If search returns no profile, verify the current Epic display name character for character and try a partial search; Epic does not support adding friends directly from the Store website.
- If only a child account is affected, a parent or guardian must manage or reset the Parental Controls PIN; support will not help another unrelated account holder act for the child.
- If a request disappears immediately, recheck Auto Decline on the receiving account before clearing queues or removing friends.
- If the Friends service is operational and both accounts are below every documented limit, capture the exact error and account IDs privately for Epic Support rather than unlinking platform accounts.
