Use one counter at a time

Steam, NVIDIA, and AMD can all show FPS. Choose one so that duplicate numbers do not cover the game or make the result confusing.

Enable Steam's Performance Overlay

Open Steam > Settings > In Game. Find Performance Overlay, choose Single FPS Value, and select a corner of the screen.

Start Elden Ring through Steam

Launch the game and load a safe area. Look in the chosen corner. FPS means frames per second, or the number of new pictures drawn each second.

Use the NVIDIA overlay as an alternative

Open the NVIDIA app, enable its overlay, press Alt+Z, and configure Statistics to include FPS. Press Alt+R in the game to show or hide it.

Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, enable Show Metrics Overlay, and select the metrics you want. The default show-or-hide shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+O.

Measure a repeatable area

Stand in the same safe location for about 30 seconds before and after a graphics change. Boss fights, menus, and different regions are not useful side-by-side tests.

If it does not work

  • If Steam's counter is missing, confirm Steam Overlay is enabled for Elden Ring and restart Steam.
  • If a graphics-app shortcut does not work, open that app and check its overlay and hotkey settings.
  • If the game becomes unstable, turn off extra overlays and recording tools, then test again with only one counter.
