Download Spotify Music on PC or Mac

Answer

With Spotify Premium, add individual songs to a playlist, open the playlist in the desktop app, then select Download for offline listening.

Confirm the offline-listening requirements

Install Spotify's official desktop app and sign in to the intended Premium account while online. Downloads remain inside Spotify for offline playback; they are not ordinary MP3 files and cannot be exported to another player.

Choose or build a playlist

Open the playlist you want available offline. To download one song, add it to a playlist first because Spotify's desktop download control applies to playlists rather than exporting an individual track.

Create a playlist when needed

In Your Library, create and name a playlist, search for the intended tracks, and use Add to playlist. Verify the versions and artists before downloading so duplicate or similarly named recordings are not saved unintentionally.

Start the download

Open the playlist and select Download. Keep Spotify running and the computer online until the download indicator completes; large playlists need adequate local storage and can take time.

Verify offline playback

After the indicator completes, briefly use Spotify's Offline mode or disconnect the test network and play several tracks. Reconnect immediately if content or account access needs refreshing.

Maintain the downloads

Reconnect Spotify regularly with the same Premium account and keep the desktop app current. Downloads can become unavailable when Premium ends, a device reaches Spotify's current download limits, or a track leaves the service.

Remove downloads without deleting the playlist

Turn off Download for the playlist when local storage is needed. Confirm the download indicator is removed; the saved playlist remains in the library unless you separately remove it.

If it does not work

  • If a download stalls, verify Premium status, storage, connectivity, and the active account, then restart Spotify and retry only that collection. If one track remains unavailable, check whether Spotify still offers it in the region rather than repeatedly deleting the full library.
