When DaVinci Resolve reports ‘Unable to Initialize GPU,’ choose Update Configuration and set GPU Processing Mode and GPU Selection Mode to Auto. On a PC with integrated and discrete graphics, set DaVinci Resolve to High performance in Windows Graphics settings. Then install the correct graphics driver and confirm that the PC meets the requirements for the installed Resolve version.
Keep the exact wording and note whether Resolve offers Update Configuration. GPU means graphics processing unit, the part of the PC that processes video and effects. This error usually means Resolve cannot use the selected graphics hardware or driver.

Return Resolve to automatic GPU selection
Select Update Configuration. In System > Memory and GPU, set GPU Processing Mode to Auto and GPU Selection Mode to Auto, then save and restart Resolve. Auto lets Resolve choose a compatible processing method and graphics adapter.

Choose the high-performance GPU in Windows
If the PC has both integrated graphics and a stronger discrete GPU, open Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Add or select DaVinci Resolve, choose Options > High performance, save, and restart Resolve. Integrated graphics are built into the processor; a discrete GPU is the separate, more powerful graphics processor.

Install the correct graphics driver
Identify the installed NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel graphics adapter in Device Manager, then install the current supported driver from that manufacturer or the computer maker. Restart Windows before testing. Do not use a generic driver-download site.

Check this Resolve version's requirements
Open Blackmagic Design Support, find the release notes or minimum requirements for the installed Resolve version, and compare the operating system, memory, GPU, video memory, and driver. If the GPU is not supported, changing a preference cannot add the missing hardware capability.

Keep evidence for Blackmagic Support
If Auto mode, the Windows graphics preference, and a supported driver do not help, record the Resolve version, Windows version, GPU model, driver version, and the full error. Use Blackmagic's support page rather than deleting preference folders or installing unofficial OpenCL or CUDA files.
If Resolve opens only after selecting Auto, leave GPU selection automatic unless a documented workflow requires a specific adapter.
If no discrete GPU appears in Windows or Resolve, check Device Manager and the PC manufacturer's documentation; software cannot select hardware that Windows does not detect.
