Change the Name Shown in Google Meet

Source-checked About 10 minutes

Answer

Change the Google Account name used by Meet, then allow it to update across Google services. Work or school administrators may control it.

Before you start

Confirm the Google Account used by Meet and understand that changing its name can affect the identity shown across Google products. Work or school administrators may control profile information, and Meet does not offer a universal per-meeting rename control.

Open Google Account Personal info

Sign in to the Google Account used for Meet and open Personal info. Open Personal info from the exact signed-in account and verify the email address before selecting Name.

Edit the account name

Select Name, make the required change, and save it. Enter the intended first and last name within Google's name policies; avoid adding a meeting title, role, or temporary note to the account identity.

Wait for Meet to update

Return to Meet after the change propagates; ask the administrator if a work or school account prevents edits. Save once, sign out only if needed, and allow time for cached profile information to update across Meet and other Google services.

Verify the result

Reopen Meet in a new session and check the profile shown before joining. Also inspect another Google product if you need to understand the broader effect of the account-name change.

Troubleshoot the Google Meet display name

If Name is locked, contact the Google Workspace administrator. If the old name persists, verify the active browser profile, clear only the relevant cached session if necessary, and wait for propagation rather than repeatedly submitting changes. The Google Account name can appear in Gmail, Calendar, and other Google products as well as Meet. Confirm that this wider identity change is intended before saving it; a meeting organizer cannot use this setting to rename another participant.
